S’wak Social Wellbeing Index 2023 Findings Out This Tuesday, Says Fatimah

The anticipation for the Sarawak Social Wellbeing Index (SSWI) 2023 findings is set to culminate this Tuesday, according to Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Minister of Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development. The research, conducted by the Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, aims to gauge the social inclusivity achievements under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“On April 30, following our State Cabinet meeting on Monday, we will unveil the outcomes of the SSWI 2023 research conducted by Swinburne Sarawak. Our primary goal is to understand the level of happiness among our citizens and identify any dissatisfaction among specific groups such as the youth, senior citizens, and residents of rural or urban areas. This understanding will enable us to address their concerns effectively,” Fatimah elaborated during her closing remarks at the Seni Kita: Her Mind programme held at the Community Social Support Centre (CSSC) in Kuching.

Fatimah stressed the state’s dedication to holistic development, emphasizing that economic advancements should go hand-in-hand with social progress. She acknowledged the complexities surrounding social development issues, highlighting their interconnectedness with other societal challenges.

The minister also discussed the success of the Community Social Support Centre (CSSC) initiative in Kuching, highlighting plans to expand this model to other divisions within Sarawak. The CSSC serves as a vital resource for disadvantaged and needy populations, offering various services and programs. “Our ambition is to launch additional CSSCs across the state, with a new center in Sibu nearing completion, and another planned for Miri, ensuring accessibility is a priority,” Fatimah added.

Since its establishment in January of the previous year, the Kuching CSSC has seen widespread utilization by various agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). It has earned praise for providing a space where NGOs can conduct their activities free of charge.

Fatimah expressed her hope that the CSSC will continue to serve as a valuable asset for NGOs and other organizations seeking to organize events and outreach programs, thereby enhancing community support and development within Sarawak.

In attendance at the event was Social Development Council executive secretary Dr. Zufar Yadi Brendan Abdullah, alongside other distinguished guests, reflecting the broad support for the initiatives discussed.

The revelations from the Sarawak Social Wellbeing Index 2023 promise to provide insightful data that will guide future policies and efforts aimed at fostering a more inclusive and socially prosperous Sarawak.
