RFA Collects K12.7 Billion from Toll Gates
The Roads Fund Administration (RFA) has successfully collected a remarkable K12.7 billion from toll gates positioned throughout the country. This impressive revenue is reflected in the organization’s latest financial reports and includes contributions from the recently established toll gates, which commenced operations in November 2021.
In a recent discussion, RFA’s Spokesperson, Masauko Mngwaluko, shared insights into the organization’s relentless efforts to efficiently manage toll gates. The primary objective is to generate substantial revenue for the development of the nation’s road infrastructure.
“We are pleased to announce that our efforts have yielded positive results, with a total collection of K12.7 billion from the toll gates,” Mngwaluko stated. “This revenue will be allocated to various road projects across the country, including the maintenance and rehabilitation of existing roads.”
RFA initially introduced its first toll gate at Chingeni in 2021, followed by another at Kalinyeke in Dedza. These successful launches are part of the overarching plan to establish more toll gates in strategic locations, aimed at enhancing revenue collection.
Further elaborating, Mngwaluko mentioned that out of the total collected revenue, K3.8 billion is earmarked for the rehabilitation of the Phula-Mpasa road, which serves as a crucial link between Kamwamba and Zalewa. This project is anticipated to enhance road safety and decrease travel time for commuters.
RFA’s significant success in toll gate revenue collection marks an essential milestone in its endeavors to upgrade the country’s road infrastructure. This achievement has garnered appreciation from various stakeholders, encompassing both government and private sectors.
The positive outcomes of toll gate revenue are also projected to bolster the country’s economy. By alleviating the financial burden on the government for road funding, more resources can be directed towards other vital sectors, including healthcare and education.
The collection of K12.7 billion from toll gates stands as a testament to RFA’s dedication to enhancing the nation’s road infrastructure. As the organization continues to pursue its mission of providing safe and efficient road networks, it is expected that the revenue from toll gates will persist in its upward trajectory, thereby significantly contributing to the country’s economic development.
