Progress in Battery Material Production: First Phosphate Corp Pioneers New Path in Lithium Iron Phosphate Industry

Share

First Phosphate Corp. Achieves Milestone in Battery Material Production

In a significant advancement for the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery industry, First Phosphate Corp. has successfully completed a pilot production transforming high purity phosphate concentrate into battery-grade purified phosphoric acid (PPA). This landmark achievement marks a pivotal moment in the company’s journey towards contributing vitally to the LFP battery sector.

Path to Innovation

Originally announced on September 6, 2023, First Phosphate embarked on a collaborative effort with Prayon Technologies SA, successfully converting its phosphate concentrate into merchant grade phosphoric acid (MGA). Following this initial success, Prayon progressed to further refine MGA into PPA, maintaining the stringent quality standards required for food and battery-grade products. The company is now in a position to offer PPA samples to selected clients, demonstrating a fully realized process from raw phosphate to battery-grade PPA.

Committed to a Sustainable Future

John Passalacqua, CEO of First Phosphate, expressed enthusiasm over the completion of the company’s full transformation process. “Our success in converting Quebec’s igneous phosphate rock into PPA for LFP batteries has set the stage for entering pilot production of LFP cathode active material and LFP battery cells,” he stated. With its sights set on engaging partners for the next phase, First Phosphate is making strides towards establishing a wholly North American source for battery-grade PPA, adhering to the highest purity levels and environmental standards.

About First Phosphate Corp.

First Phosphate Corp. positions itself as a leader in the development of phosphate-based solutions for the LFP battery industry. The company’s mission is to responsibly deliver high-purification materials with a minimal carbon footprint, aiming for vertical integration from mine to supply chain. Operating over 1,500 sq. km of royalty-free land in the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean Region of Quebec, Canada, First Phosphate’s focus on rare anorthosite igneous phosphate rock signifies a potential revolution in providing materials free of harmful elements and of excellent quality for battery production.

Forward-Looking Information

This announcement contains forward-looking statements regarding First Phosphate’s ambitions and operational plans. Although built on reasonable expectations and assumptions, these statements involve risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ. Despite robust plans for exploration and development, the inherently speculative nature of the projects, reliance on funding, and regulatory environments, among other factors, could influence outcomes. These uncertainties underscore the speculative nature of First Phosphate’s endeavors and the importance of considering a range of factors before drawing conclusions about the company’s prospects.

First Phosphate’s commitment to enriching the LFP battery industry through innovation, sustainability, and a forward-thinking approach heralds an exciting phase for the battery sector. With pivotal developments on the horizon, the company is poised to play a crucial role in powering the future.
