A significant roundtable discussion was convened between the government of Nagaland and a delegation from the United Kingdom to explore the burgeoning opportunities and investment potential that the state offers. This initiative highlights Nagaland’s growing appeal in the international arena.

The event took place on a Saturday, coinciding with the arrival of the UK delegation for the renowned Hornbill Festival, which serves as a vibrant platform for cultural and commercial exchange.

During the discussions, partnerships were explored in crucial sectors such as agritech and the creative economy. In his opening address, the Chairman of the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland, Abu Metha, emphasized the global significance of the Hornbill Festival. He illustrated it as an essential venue for networking and collaboration, fostering fruitful international relationships.

Metha highlighted Nagaland’s ongoing transformation into a “land of opportunities,” noting its success in balancing modern growth while preserving its rich cultural identity as a land of festivals. He stressed the potential for agritech and the creative economy as key drivers of economic advancement and underscored the importance of strategic collaborations with the United Kingdom to spearhead a new era of sustainable development for the state.

British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron and Andrew Gwatkin, Director of International Relations and Trade for the government of Wales, commended Nagaland for its proactive efforts in fortifying bilateral ties and fostering international cooperation.

Hekani Jakhalu, Advisor for Industries and Commerce, emphasized the need to develop a robust startup ecosystem in Nagaland with the assistance of international partners. She reiterated the state’s commitment to creating an environment conducive to the growth of businesses and entrepreneurs, particularly in sectors poised for significant expansion.

Additionally, Director of British Council India Alison Barrett and British Deputy High Commissioner Andrew Fleming addressed the roundtable, underlining the role of cultural and educational exchanges in building long-term partnerships between Nagaland and the UK.

Both leaders reaffirmed the UK’s dedication to working closely with Nagaland to design impactful programs that yield benefits for communities and bolster the state’s global visibility. This collaborative approach aims to translate opportunities into tangible outcomes, fostering innovation and growth.
