Ericsson and iot squared Collaborate to Revolutionize Sustainability Efforts in Saudi Arabia

In a significant stride towards a sustainable future for Saudi Arabia, Ericsson has joined forces with iot squared, a subsidiary of stc Group, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the prestigious Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2024, held in Spain. This partnership heralds the introduction of the Ericsson Connected Recycling (ECR) platform as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), marking a pivotal moment in the country’s waste management and sustainability endeavors.

This collaboration is set to amplify awareness regarding the critical importance of waste management and contribute towards forging a more sustainable future for the nation. Ericsson Connected Recycling emerges as a comprehensive end-to-end platform designed to tackle the environmental ramifications of waste by digitalizing reverse supply chains. The platform aims to optimize, ensure traceability and transparency, and extend the possibility of monetizing waste, thereby encouraging the transformation of waste into recycled raw materials rather than resorting to landfill disposal or incineration.

The Essence of Valuable Recycling

One of the standout features of the Ericsson Connected Recycling platform is its robust sustainability reporting capability. This feature offers insights into recycling that can significantly optimize operations and promote the concept of circularity. It boasts the ability to integrate and orchestrate external data sources, securely store data, and deliver powerful big data management. These functionalities enable insightful data visualizations and operational efficiencies across the value chain, presenting a paradigm shift in waste management practices.

Initial Launch and Future Prospects

Under the MoU, Ericsson and iot squared are set to introduce the ECR platform in the kingdom, catering to various waste streams, with the initial phase focusing on addressing Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). Othman Aldahash, the Chief Executive Officer of iot squared, reflected on the partnership saying, “Our mission is to provide organizations with real-time insights for critical decision-making and intelligent operations. Ericsson Connected Recycling perfectly aligns with iot squared’s mission and our ambition to revolutionize Saudi Arabia’s technological landscape with IoT solutions for achieving sustainability, in line with the Saudi Green Initiative.”

HÃ¥kan Cervell, Vice President and Head of Customer Unit stc, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt at Ericsson Middle East and Africa, also shared his insights: “Ericsson is committed to building a better future today. The Ericsson Connected Recycling platform aims at promoting circularity, innovation, and sustainability by digitalizing and tracking several waste streams, initially focusing on Municipal Solid Waste in Saudi Arabia. This transparent approach connects buyers and sellers of waste and recycled raw material, fostering a more sustainable economy in the country aligned with the Saudi Green Initiative. We are proud to be partnering with iot squared to make this vision a reality.”

This collaboration between Ericsson and iot squared signifies a concerted effort towards enhancing sustainability and digital transformation in Saudi Arabia. It underscores the potential of innovative technological solutions in addressing environmental challenges and advancing the country towards its ambitious goals under the Saudi Green Initiative, thereby promising a greener, more sustainable future.
