New Startup Company Enters the Milk Recording Business – Agriland.ie

A novel entity, Dairy Data, has recently emerged on the scene of the milk recording industry, offering a fresh set of services to dairy farmers across Ireland. Established by James Cleary in 2023, Dairy Data has quickly become a name of interest among the dairy farming community, especially in the northern Tipperary region and its environs.

James Cleary shares insights about the company’s journey, “This our second year in the milk-recording business, and we have successfully secured a strong and growing base in the north Tipperary area and surrounding counties. We’re receiving calls daily from dairy farmers who are either new to milk recording or are interested in switching to our services.”

In Ireland, the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF) lists four Milk Recording Organisations (MROs) authorized to provide milk recording services. Joining the ranks of Munster Bovine, Progressive Genetics, and Tipperary Co-op, Dairy Data stands out as the country’s latest entrant into this essential sector, highlighting the growing competition and innovation within the industry.

Dairy Data is fully recognised by the ICBF as an MRO. This accreditation ensures that the results from Dairy Data’s milk recordings undergo the same rigorous processes as those from other MROs, leading to comprehensive reports for farmers that match industry standards. “Our recordings are uploaded to the ICBF, and the reports generated are identical to those produced by our competitors, ensuring consistency and reliability for our clients,” Cleary explains.

Cleary further outlines Dairy Data’s operational scope, “We service farmers supplying various co-ops and currently cover regions including north Tipperary, into Galway, and parts of Clare. However, our ambition is to expand our services to a broader and more diverse area.”

Dairy Data caters to a wide array of dairy parlours, from smaller six-unit operations to larger 40-unit herringbones, and even 40, 50, and 60 bail rotary parlours. The company prides itself on competitive pricing, flexible scheduling to accommodate farmers, and thorough explanations of milk recording reports. This comprehensive approach helps farmers make informed decisions to enhance their herd’s performance.

James comes from a robust background in agriculture, having graduated from University College Dublin in 2021 with a degree in BAgrSc Animal and Crop Production. In addition to running a dairy herd of 140 cows with his father, James has gained valuable experience through working with Grasstec Group in farm mapping and farmyard design, as well as undertaking placements with Dan O’Connor Feeds, Kepak, and Teagasc during his college years.

Dairy Data’s entry into the milk recording market signals a promising development for dairy farmers across Ireland. With a strong foundation and a commitment to service, innovation, and growth, Dairy Data is poised to become a significant player in the milk recording industry.
