Biologicals Startup BioPrime Raises $6M in Series A Round
BioPrime, an innovative startup in the biologicals sector, has successfully raised $6 million in a Series A funding round. The investment was led by Edaphon and was equally supported by existing investors, Omnivore and Inflexor. This marks the first investment in Asia for the Belgium-based Edaphon.
With the influx of new capital, BioPrime is set to expand its research and development activities within the crop protection segment. The focus will be on the co-development of novel biofungicides and bioinsecticides, which are anticipated to transform sustainable agriculture practices.
Renuka Diwan, Co-founder and CEO of BioPrime, commented, “Securing this investment is a testimony to the strength and impact of our technology and the dedication of our team. We will continue to pursue our strategic priorities of accelerating the development of industry solutions in the biologicals space. We look forward to enhancing the offerings to our existing B2B customers and entering into strategic co-development and licensing with industry players.”
Founded in 2016 by Dr. Renuka Diwan, Dr. Amit Shinde, and Dr. Shekhar Bhosale, BioPrime has carved a niche in using targeted physiology-modulating biomolecules to build climate resilience in crops. The company’s innovative approach addresses critical agricultural challenges, contributing to the overall sustainability of farming practices.
BioPrime envisions a broader impact by launching its existing range of innovative biostimulants in North America, Brazil, and Southeast Asia. Trials in the United States are already underway, signifying the beginning of a global expansion strategy. This expansion is complemented by BioPrime’s intention to advance product development through its patented technology platform, BioNexus. This platform has successfully identified over 170 novel microbial strains from a vast library of nearly 18,000 strains, showcasing BioPrime’s commitment to ongoing innovation.
Operating from within India’s rapidly expanding biostimulant market, BioPrime is intricately connected to the agricultural core of the country. It provides critical solutions to smallholder farmers and addresses pressing sustainability challenges. Vincent Vliebergh, Managing Partner of Edaphon, noted, “This combination of proven market performance, forward-looking innovation, and strong market potential makes BioPrime well-positioned to drive both immediate and long-term impact.”
The strategic direction that BioPrime has taken is yielding results that promise to revolutionize the agricultural landscape. By focusing on pioneering biologicals solutions, BioPrime is not only enhancing crop resilience but also contributing to a more sustainable future in agriculture worldwide.
