Bass Pro Shops to Open First Pittsburgh-area Location

The arrival of Bass Pro Shops in the Pittsburgh area marks a significant addition to the region’s retail landscape, with the company revealing plans for a groundbreaking new outlet. Nestled within the Newbury Market development in South Fayette Township, this forthcoming establishment is more than just a store; it’s a destination.

Sprawling across 100,000 square feet, the new Outdoor World store is set to redefine the outdoor retail experience. Described as a homage to the rich sporting legacy of the region, Bass Pro Shops aims to honor the passionate community of sportsmen and women in western Pennsylvania. The store promises a unique blend of retail, entertainment, outdoor education, and conservation efforts.

Shoppers can look forward to an extensive selection of hunting and fishing gear, alongside a wide range of equipment designed for other outdoor pursuits such as hiking, backpacking, and camping. The inclusion of a nature and gift center is slated to further enrich the shopping experience, offering outdoor-themed items, including the charming Big Cedar Home & Cabin decor and accessories.

“It’s an honor to serve the sportsmen and women in the Pittsburgh area, with genuine friendly, expert service and to help outfit them for adventures as they enjoy Pennsylvania’s great outdoors,” stated Johnny Morris, the founder of Bass Pro Shops. Morris, affectionately dubbed “The Walt Disney of the Outdoors,” has a renowned reputation for crafting immersive retail experiences that bridge the gap between consumers and the natural world.

True to its brand identity, the upcoming store will feature iconic Bass Pro Shops elements including large aquariums filled with native fish species, an array of local antiques and artifacts, stunning wildlife mounts, and meticulously painted murals, all aimed at celebrating the area’s wildlife and natural beauty.

The genesis of Bass Pro Shops can be traced back to 1972 when Johnny Morris began selling fishing tackle from his father’s liquor store in Springfield, Missouri. Since then, the company has grown exponentially, establishing itself as a frontrunner in the outdoor retail sector. Although Bass Pro Shops operates two other stores in the state, the South Fayette store will be a first for western Pennsylvania, expanding the brand’s footprint and accessibility to outdoor enthusiasts in the region.

With an anticipated opening in early 2026, the South Fayette store is poised to become a pivotal outdoor retail hub. By merging a comprehensive product offering with immersive, nature-themed experiences, Bass Pro Shops is set to elevate the retail landscape in the Pittsburgh area, underscoring its commitment to fostering a deeper appreciation of the outdoors among its clientele.
