Avangrid Launches New Educational Tool to Simplify Billing for Utility Customers
In a significant move to enhance customer service transparency, Avangrid, Inc., a leading sustainable energy company, has unveiled a new educational initiative aimed at demystifying the billing process for utility customers. This innovative approach involves the rollout of animated bill explainer videos across several states, including Connecticut, Maine, and New York, bringing clarity and simplification to what has traditionally been a complex process.
Pedro Azagra, Avangrid CEO, highlighted the importance of customer education in providing superior service to the company’s extensive base of over 3.3 million electric and natural gas customers throughout the northeast. Azagra remarked, “We understand that energy bills can be complex with various charges such as supply and delivery charges, taxes, and public policy costs. Our new bill explainer videos are designed to clarify these elements, empowering our customers to make informed decisions about their energy use.”
In Connecticut, United Illuminating (UI) customers can now access a bill explainer video that breaks down the newly redesigned electric bill. This redesign is the result of a collaborative effort spanning four years between UI’s Customer Service Team and the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) Office of Education, Outreach, & Enforcement (EOE). The video succinctly explains the four key components of the UI electric bill: Supply, Transmission, Local Delivery, and Public Benefits, shedding light on the nuances of each and their contribution to the total bill.
Central Maine Power (CMP) in Maine has introduced its very first animated bill explainer video, launching a series aimed at addressing frequently asked questions in an innovative and accessible format. Having garnered 45,000 views, the video delves into the different segments of a power bill, such as electric supply, delivery, and public policy charges, elucidating how these elements combine to form the monthly bill total.
For customers in New York, the new bill explainer videos for New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) and Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) provide a comprehensive guide to understanding electric and gas bills. These videos detail the Supply and Local Delivery components, as well as public policy charges collected to support New York state’s clean energy goals, offering insights into the factors driving the costs.
