Australian Official Hails Positive Developments in Vietnam-Australia Relations

In a recent engagement in Canberra on March 27, Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Pham Hung Tam had a constructive meeting with Senator Tim Ayres, the Assistant Minister for Trade and Manufacturing of Australia. This meeting underscored the buoyant state and upward trajectory of the bilateral rapport between Vietnam and Australia, as per the discussions that took place.

During the meeting, Senator Ayres lauded the prevailing positive developments in the Vietnam-Australia relationships. He conveyed that both the Australian Government and he, on a personal level, are very optimistic about the current and future dynamics of the bilateral ties between the two nations. Their interest and support are geared towards nurturing this relationship further to not only benefit both countries but also to contribute to the peace, stability, and prosperity of the wider region.

The dialogue shone a light on the untapped potential still existing in the trade and investment nexus between Vietnam and Australia. Senator Ayres expressly committed to facilitating greater market access for Vietnamese agricultural goods. Furthermore, Australia’s continuous support for Vietnam was pledged, focusing on the provision of essential minerals and fostering cooperation in climate change adaptation and energy transition. These steps are aimed toward the mutual goal of achieving net-zero emissions.

From his side, the Vietnamese Ambassador talked about actionable measures to deepen the trade and investment relationship further between the two countries. The emphasis was on ensuring sustainable supply chains and the effective execution of trade agreements to which both countries are signatories. These include the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA). Moreover, discussions also gravitated towards the need for speeding up the initiation of the Ministerial Dialogue on energy and minerals, which is seen as crucial for both nations.

This meeting between Ambassador Pham Hung Tam and Senator Tim Ayres significantly highlights the mutual interest and steps being taken towards enhancing the multi-faceted cooperation between Vietnam and Australia. The commitments made and the discussions held aren’t just pivotal in bolstering the bilateral relations but are also indicative of the broader collaborative spirit aimed at regional prosperity and sustainable development. The continued dialogue between Vietnam and Australia sets a strong foundation for future engagements and collective progress in various sectors of mutual interest.
