Pet Healthcare Startup Tandem Raises $10 Million to Redefine Veterinary Care
Tandem, a pioneering pet healthcare startup committed to delivering accessible and top-tier healthcare services to pets, has successfully raised $10 million in pre-seed funding. This substantial investment is set to revolutionize the world of veterinary care with the introduction of a 5,000 square foot AI-powered health hub, anticipated to open in the summer.
Tandem is offering an innovative ecosystem for veterinary medicine that is set apart by its proprietary AI-driven operating system. This sophisticated platform seamlessly integrates a full range of pet healthcare services, creating a cohesive environment for pet owners. Among the services offered are telehealth consultations, at-home wellness visits, cutting-edge clinical facilities, and comprehensive pharmacy services, ensuring that pets’ needs are met efficiently and effectively at any location and time.
The company’s integrated technology platform is specifically designed to empower veterinary care providers to deliver exceptional service. This ensures a seamless and stress-free experience for pet parents while supporting modern veterinary teams in maintaining the highest standards of care.
Prem Sharma, CEO of Tandem, remarked, “At Tandem, we believe every pet deserves a healthy, vibrant life. By bridging different silos of veterinary care, we’re delivering high-quality care that lets pets truly thrive – not just survive. We are leveraging our experience in building large-scale, high-impact healthcare systems to enhance pet healthcare. An integrated healthcare experience not only improves the lives of pets and their parents but also eases the work of veterinary care providers.”
Since the initiation of its pilot services in the fall of 2024, Tandem has formed partnerships with more than 100 residential complexes in the greater Boston area, establishing “Neighborhood Clinics.” These clinics bring convenient, accessible veterinary care to over 500 pet families, greatly enhancing the accessibility of animal healthcare. Tandem’s proprietary platform, Laika, has facilitated the integration of the latest AI advancements into everyday clinical practice, significantly enriching the clinical experience and saving approximately two hours of administrative work daily for veterinarians.
Co-founder Khalid Aljabri emphasized, “Improving pet healthcare isn’t just about better care for animals – it’s about creating a smarter, more sustainable work environment that empowers veterinarians, reduces burnout, and attracts the best talent to drive the future of veterinary medicine. The drugs I prescribe to my patients and most of the devices I use in my procedures are initially tested on animals. So, why can’t we fix the broken human healthcare system by establishing a successful animal healthcare model?”
With over 70% of U.S. households owning pets, paired with veterinary burnout reaching critical levels, the demand for novel pet healthcare solutions is more urgent than ever. Tandem’s comprehensive approach not only ensures superior care for pets but also mitigates the stress faced by veterinarians. This integrated strategy signifies a promising future for veterinary medicine, one where both pets and their caretakers receive the support they need.
