Qatar Airways Expands Horizons: New Flights to Toronto and Enhanced Starlink Connectivity

Share

December 12 marks an exciting day for Qatar Airways as it celebrates two significant achievements: the introduction of new flights to Toronto, Canada, and equipping more aircraft with Starlink connectivity. The airline’s inaugural flight to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ)—utilizing a Starlink-enabled Boeing 777—successfully landed today, heralding the commencement of three weekly non-stop flights from Hamad International Airport (DOH), which has been voted the World’s Best Airport by Skytrax for 2024.

Toronto now joins Montreal as Qatar Airways’ second destination in Canada. Since its debut in 2011, the service to Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) has catered to over 1.6 million passengers with seven daily flights. The Toronto route further extends Qatar Airways’ reach, making it the fourteenth gateway to the Americas.

This new service to Toronto will grant Canadian travelers convenient access to the broad global network Qatar Airways offers. This expansion is coupled with the airline surpassing its objective of outfitting 12 Boeing 777 aircraft with Starlink by the end of 2024. Impressively, 14 aircraft have been upgraded in less than 55 days, increasing the total modified aircraft to 15.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, expressed: “Qatar Airways warmly welcomes the vibrant and diverse city of Toronto as the newest member of our extensive network, which spans more than 170 destinations. This expansion into Canada reinforces our steadfast dedication to delivering superior service and seamless connectivity to Canadian travelers. As a crucial hub for international travel, Toronto Pearson connects business, culture, and tourism, making it a perfect fit for our network. We are delighted to bring our world-class service and award-winning hospitality to this dynamic city.”

Qatar Airways stands as the largest global airline to offer complimentary Starlink on board and is the first to operate Boeing 777 aircraft equipped with this advanced connectivity. This service allows passengers to remain entertained and connected throughout their journey. They can stream their favorite shows and live sports, engage in online gaming, or work without interruption at 35,000 feet.

While aboard one of Qatar Airways’ 15 Starlink-enabled aircraft, passengers will receive exemplary service, whether enjoying the à la carte Business Class offerings or unlimited snacks and beverages in Economy Class, in addition to having access to 8,000 entertainment options.

Deborah Flint, Chief Executive Officer and President of Toronto Pearson, remarked: “We are thrilled to welcome Qatar Airways to Toronto Pearson. This eagerly awaited route opens up an exciting array of destinations for passengers wishing to travel to the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. As the demand for international travel surges, global connectivity becomes increasingly vital for Canada and Pearson. This route enhances the wide range of convenient and accessible flight options available to our passengers.”

Toronto Pearson stands as Canada’s largest airport in terms of total passenger traffic and offers the most international destinations of any airport in North America. This establishes it as a primary hub for travelers. As the largest city in Canada and the fourth-largest in North America, Toronto boasts a diverse population with significant communities from China, India, Pakistan, and the Philippines.
