Jordan, Tuvalu, and Nigeria to showcase government communication successes at IGCF 2024

As the 13th International Government Communication Forum (IGCF 2024) approaches, anticipation builds around the innovative practices and successful case studies to be shared by governments from across the globe. Scheduled for September 4-5 at the Expo Centre Sharjah, the event promises an array of inspirational speeches and discussions featuring the governments of Jordan, Nigeria, and Tuvalu, among others.

The Sharjah Government Media Bureau has meticulously organized the forum to highlight the latest in communication technologies, strategies, and trends. Governing bodies, academic institutions, and private organizations from the UAE and beyond, such as the Ministry of Community Development, Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government, Sharjah Youth Council, and Sheraa (Sharjah Entrepreneurship Centre), will contribute to a rich dialogue on topics including sustainability, digitization, and government performance.

Highlighting Best Practices

Selected for their remarkable government communication initiatives, Jordan will present its ‘For a Drop of Water’ campaign focusing on water usage efficiency, while Tuvalu discusses its ‘World’s First Digital Nation’ project, aimed at preserving national identity amidst rising sea levels. Nigeria will introduce the ‘Citifeed App’, designed to involve the public in monitoring government projects and performance.

Additionally, the forum will shine a spotlight on nominees for the best communication practices in addressing developmental changes, featuring PepsiCo’s ‘Mega Green Accelerators’, the Al-Futtaim Group’s sustainability strategies, and Emirates Nature-WWF’s environmental initiatives.

Gov Talks and Dialogues

The ‘Gov Talks’ segment will tackle 15 crucial topics, ranging from the potential of aging as the essence of the “Silver Economy,” led by HE Hessa Bint Essa Buhumaid, to discussions on artificial intelligence’s role in redefining media campaigns by Dr. Suheil Dahdal. Other notable sessions include the exploration of new content creation for younger generations, the power of habits in sustainability, and opening youth perceptions to diverse cultures.

‘Gov Dialogues’ will focus on empowering women and the youth in crafting the future of communication, with sessions led by the Executive Office of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi. It will also include discussions on renewing media discourse, bridging generations in the business domain, and the intersection of innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability.

An important session will dissect ‘Digital Government Communication’, examining the balance between empowering youth and leveraging their insights, featuring directors from the Federal Youth Parliament and the Media Office of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.

Additional dialogues will address global challenges such as refugee stereotypes, with contributions from UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Maya Ghazal, among other notable speakers.

Future-forward Sessions

The Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government will discuss ‘Future Skills in the Era of AI and Innovative Communication,’ exploring resilient governance and ethical considerations in an AI-enabled world. These conversations underscore the importance of innovation, ethics, and strategic communication in government practices worldwide.

As IGCF 2024 approaches, it stands as a beacon for global and regional leaders in government communication, offering a platform to exchange knowledge, strategies, and insights on harnessing communication for the public good.
