10 Minute School: A Pause in Digital Learning Revolution in Bangladesh

10 Minute School Closed Indefinitely

In a significant development within the education sector of Bangladesh, 10 Minute School, a prominent online educational platform, has announced an indefinite cessation of their operations. Founded in 2015 by Ayman Sadiq, the platform aimed to revolutionize the educational landscape of Bangladesh through digital learning solutions.

Through a notification on their verified Facebook profile, 10 Minute School informed the public that “All live classes, revision classes, and offline classes of the English Centre of 10 Minute School will be closed indefinitely from today (August 3).” This announcement has marked a pause on the activities of a platform that served as a beacon of learning and education for many.

While this pause in operations will undoubtedly affect the learners and educators associated with the platform, 10 Minute School has assured that all their previously recorded teaching videos will remain accessible on their website and YouTube channel. This move allows students to continue benefiting from the wealth of educational resources the platform has amassed over the years.

The decision to halt operations did not come in isolation. It aligns with the backdrop of widespread protests across the country, hinting at the challenges faced by educational enterprises in times of social upheaval. Further complicating matters was the recent announcement on July 16 by Startup Bangladesh Limited, the first and only flagship venture capital fund of the ICT Division sponsored by the Government of Bangladesh. In a surprising move, Startup Bangladesh Limited declared the cancellation of an investment proposal of Tk 5 crore that was set to benefit 10 Minute School significantly. The platform, recognized as Bangladesh’s largest edtech platform, was poised for growth with this investment, aiming to expand its reach and enhance its offering.

This series of events raises questions about the stability and future prospects of edtech platforms in regions facing socio-political challenges. While 10 Minute School has been a pioneering institution in bringing quality education to the doorsteps of millions through digital means, its indefinite closure signals a moment of reflection for stakeholders in the educational and technological sectors alike. What remains clear is the impact 10 Minute School has had in reshaping how education can be delivered in the digital age, a legacy that will outlive this period of uncertainty.
